This part-time position is year-round, hours vary seasonally. It serves as an assistant preschool teacher in our nature-based preschool 2-3 days a week during the school year. It also includes teaching family classes and helping with Zoo events on weekends and evening, and working our early childhood summer camp. Summer hours include a minimum of 7 weeks at 40 hours a week. This position' primary duties are to help facilitate child-directed learning grounded in the natural world.

Follow all sanitation and food handling protocols
Follow all dept. wide Covid protocols including indoor masking

Maintain a high level of detail and scrutiny, as well as strict confidentiality
Research, develop and create activities and materials that are developmentally appropriate and scientifically accurate
Model sustainable behaviors
Model a positive relationship with the natural world
Attend all required professional development opportunities and team meetings
Effectively and compassionately communicate with children, teammates, volunteers, parents, guests and other co-workers
Assist with daily classroom set-up and clean-up
Meet all project deadlines
Other duties as assigned by management

Qualifications:

Commitment to supporting all young children in their development
Passion for connecting young children to the natural world
Experience with child directed learning
Bachelor's degree preferred
Experience working with children 3-5 required
Knowledge of local environments
Patience with children and ability prioritize their needs
Ability to move long distance over varied terrains daily
Desire to work outdoors a minimum of 50% of the time in all weather
Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
High standard of ethics and confidentiality to handle sensitive information
Strong multi-tasking, planning and organization skills
Commitment to working with children of all abilities from varied backgrounds
Willing and able to develop professionally as a teacher by studying various methodologies throughout the year
Flexible in their strategies as they develop experiential opportunities that meet the needs of a variety of ages, styles of learning and abilities
Creative thinker
Flexible and willing to happily change direction and plans with a moment’s notice
Certification in first aid, CPR and Serve Safe food handling or willingness to acquire immediately
All successful candidates for this position will be required to submit to a criminal background check and drug test. COVID vaccinations and TB tests are required for this position.
