Summary

Trap Pond State Park is home to the northernmost baldcypress forest in the US, with knobby tree-knees protruding from the pond's waters. As Delaware's first state park, Trap Pond has a long and storied history with deep cultural connections in the local community, and a unique environment full of adventures.

Camps this summer include Creature Feature (age 7-10), Art in the Park (age 11-14), Fishing Frenzy (age 9-12) and more!

Day Camp Counselors are is responsible for leading activities for summer camps and assists with the supervision of campers to ensure and maintain a fun, positive and safe camp environment.  Camps run Monday through Friday, June through mid-late August depending on site.

Youth Education Coordinator is responsible for the supervision of campers, the camp team and the camp program to ensure and maintain a fun, positive and safe camp environment. (Position can/may be extended to year-round to coordinate and schedule onsite school field trips).

 

Essential Functions:

  • May develop and facilitate educational programs for schools and special events.
  • May lead school environmental education programs tied to state standards to increase student understanding of Delaware’s natural and cultural resources.
  • May deliver interpretive programs to participants of all ages in a variety of contexts.
  • Provides general customer service and park information to visitors.
  • Distributes interpretive publications.
  • May lead educational and recreational hikes, canoe and kayak trips plus programs for park visitors.
  • May include live animal care and handling.
  • Must be able to demonstrate responsibility, dependability and good communication skills.
  • Maintain a positive attitude.

Requirements:

Day Camp Counselor

  1. Must be at least 20 years of age.
  2. Six months experience planning and delivering interpretive programs for adults and children.
  3. Six months experience coordinating and promoting special events or initiatives.
  4. Knowledge of public speaking or interpretation.
  5. Knowledge of various recreational activities such as hiking, mountain biking, boating, rock climbing or swimming.
  6. Knowledge of local plants, animals or history.
  7. Possession of a valid driver's license (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).

Youth Education Coordinator

  1. Must be at least 21 years of age.
  2. One-year experience working in a camp program for children or young adults.
  3. One-year experience in supervising groups, staff or volunteers.
  4. Knowledge of various recreational activities such as hiking, mountain biking, boating, rock climbing or swimming.
  5. Knowledge of local plants, animals or history.
  6. Possession of a valid driver’s license (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).

Compensation Information

Day Camp Counselor:  $11.75 - $14.00/hr

Youth Education Coordinator: $16.50 - $20.00/hr
