Forest Preserves of Cook County.

Summary

The Conservation Corps job program welcomes people interested in working outdoors to help improve the health of local forest preserves. Crew members gain valuable skills and certifications that help lead to a long-term career in natural land management or other environmental jobs. Typical days for Conservation Corps members include training in and the removal of invasive species and restoration of native ecosystems in collaboration with the
Forest Preserves of Cook County.

Responsibilities:

● Work outdoors on a team of four removing invasive species and conducting other physical work to restore ecological health to forest preserves.

● Crew members are expected to complete trainings through Friends and Forest Preserves of Cook County.

Required Qualifications:

● Must be 18 years or older

● Strong interest in learning about conservation and working outdoors.

● Must be punctual and responsible with the ability to work with others as a team.

● Ability to lift and move heavy objects (50 lbs.) and work outside in inclement weather and extreme temperatures.

● Must have the ability to obtain a State of Illinois Pesticide Operator License and First Aid/CPR certification ability to secure one within 45 days of hire (trainings are provided)

● Ability to obtain FPCC Feller I Chainsaw Certification, FOTFP Chainsaw Certification, and Chicago Wilderness Prescription Burn Training Certification (trainings are provided)

● Some flexibility in work hours including weekend work is required.

● Ability to meet at designated meetup location at 9901 Willow Springs Rd., Willow Springs, IL 60480.

Beneficial Skills/Qualifications:

Experience working outdoors and familiarity with Midwest outdoor conservation work preferred.

● Pay starts at $15.40 with ability to increase to $18.40 per hour depending on credentials, certifications, and experience.

Compensation Information

Salary: $15.40 per hour with the ability to increase to $18.40 per hour depending on credentials, certifications, and experience.

36 hours per week on average (full time)

Typically 9 hours/day, 6:00 am to 3:30 pm, Monday-Thursday.

Flexibility is required, in case weather requires a shift in schedule to include Friday or Saturday work.
