Position Summary:

The Core Instructor I is a passionate and dedicated individual who thrives in an outdoor setting and is committed to delivering high-quality environmental education programs to elementary school students. This role requires strong leadership skills, a deep understanding of natural sciences, and a genuine enthusiasm for connecting children with the wonders of the natural world.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Program Development and Delivery: Develop and deliver engaging, hands-on outdoor education programs that align with Muddy Sneakers' curriculum and pedagogy.
  • Lead Instructor Role: Serve as the primary liaison with assigned schools, cultivating positive relationships with teachers and administrators.
  • Curriculum Development: Contribute to the development and refinement of Muddy Sneakers' curriculum, including print, digital, and multimedia resources.
  • Program Logistics: Assist with the planning and logistics of program delivery, including scheduling, equipment management, and transportation.
  • Professional Development: Participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities to enhance instructional skills and knowledge of environmental education best practices.
  • Data Collection and Reporting: Collect and submit program data, including student observations, photographs, and anecdotal records.
  • Team Collaboration: Collaborate effectively with fellow instructors, program managers, and administrative staff to ensure program success.

Qualifications:

  • Experience working with elementary school-aged children in an educational setting.
  • Strong understanding of natural science concepts and principles.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certifications (or willingness to obtain).
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • North Carolina residency required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Environmental Educator certification (or commitment to obtaining).
  • Experience developing and delivering outdoor education programs.
  • Familiarity with North Carolina's natural ecosystems.

Compensation Information

$21-$23/hr
