Full time permanent position focused on field-based professional development opportunities for formal and non-formal educators.

Summary

The Coordinator of Teacher Education assists with the development and delivery of a comprehensive set of professional development programs, including workshops, field experiences, and events offered statewide and beyond, for formal and non-formal educators with goals of enhancing educators’ understanding and appreciation of the natural environment, increasing the use of the outdoors in teaching, providing content information on the natural sciences, inspiring renewed passion for teaching, and providing activities and resources for educational use.

This position utilizes best practices in experiential education, technological tools, and ongoing knowledge-building to provide outstanding professional development programs for North Carolina’s educators.

Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Develop and facilitate group learning experiences that model best practices in teaching.
  • Build and maintain knowledge of the natural history of NC and the southeast.
  • Coordinate logistics and maintain educational resources for programs.
  • Safely conduct educational experiences in the outdoors under a variety of conditions.
  • Use verbal and written communication skills to actively engage adults and/or students with scientific information.

Position/Physical Requirements:

  • Must be available to work the schedule of Monday - Friday 8am - 5pm, with regular weekend and evening work as needed.
  • Must have a valid Class C Commercial Driver’s License (to operate large passenger vehicles) or be able to obtain one within 90 days of employment.
  • Must have valid Wilderness First Aid and CPR/AED certifications or be able to obtain both of them within 90 days of employment.
  • Must be able to navigate challenging outdoor terrain on foot with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Must be able to work in conditions that include exposure to the outdoors and challenging environmental conditions (excessive heat, excessive cold, rain, snow, etc) with or without reasonable accommodation.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

Management Prefers:

  • Demonstrated experience in teaching and/or program coordination
  • Demonstrated experience managing groups and tailoring learning experiences to individual participants.
  • Demonstrated experience collaborating with a team on projects and initiatives and working independently with minimal guidance from supervisor.
  • Demonstrated experience handling live plants and animals.

 

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Art History, Biology, Botany, Conservation, Education, History or Zoology from an appropriately accredited institution

 AND

 two years of museum or related work; 

OR

an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Compensation Information


$34,270.00 - $48,238.00 Annually
