Gain hands-on experience at a marine science field station while learning valuable technical and interpersonal skills. The Content and Social Engagement Intern is immersed in the daily operations of the Chincoteague Bay Field Station while organizing, collecting, and posting social media content. Marketing and Media Interns will also develop leadership skills as they support college students as resident advisors.

Dates of Service: May 5, 2025 - August 9, 2025

Duties

The Content and Social Engagement Intern will be immersed with U&R programming, assisting U&R staff with field excursions to collect marketing content, and leading and supporting the college community. They will also have the opportunity to support other CBFS programming such as summer camps. The Content and Social Engagement Intern will be responsible for planning and executing college activities and events throughout the summer with assistance from other U&R staff. Interns will also be responsible for designing, implementing, and reporting an original relevant media project such as a newsletter, hype video, or other relevant marketing product. The duties of the Content and Social Engagement Intern are split into three categories: Content Collection and DistributionProgram Maintenance, and Residential.

  • Content Collection and Distribution
    • Take photos and videos of CBFS programming using Nikon, GoPro and phone cameras 
    • Maintain and revitalize CBFS social media accounts while showcasing CBFS values and themes
    • Conduct interviews with CBFS participants, faculty, and staff for social media and website content
    • Update CBFS website, blog, newsletter as needed
  • Program Maintenance (PGM)
    • Assist with office tasks as needed
    • Maintain and prepare labs for faculty and summer programs
    • Assist in the field with summer courses when needed
    • Assist with driving for summer courses
  • Residential (RA)
    • Create a welcoming atmosphere for all students
    • Assist with check-in and check-out procedures
    • Enforce rules and assist students with residential issues
    • Develop and lead recreational activities
    • Act in a role similar to a residential advisor on university campuses
    • Be on call 2 or 3 nights per week to assist with student needs

Compensation Information

Interns will receive a $1000 stipend distributed in four installments throughout the summer. Inters will receive room and board and meals when programs are in session. Interns will receive 3 weeks off during which they may take a CBFS class with CBFS fees waived (dependent on course enrollment).
