Are you passionate about wildlife conservation and eager to share that enthusiasm with others? Join our dynamic team as a Conservation Educator I (Interim) at the Salato Wildlife Education Center with Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources (KDFWR).

Summary

This multifaceted, full-time position provides a unique opportunity to engage the public through a variety of formal and informal educational programs that highlight KDFWR's vital role in the management and conservation of fish and wildlife.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver captivating daily public programs using props, chalkboards, and live animals.
  • Conduct animal trainings and enrichments.
  • Facilitate hunter range day certification courses.
  • Create written reports and develop educational materials.
  • Assist with animal husbandry, visitor services, admissions, sales, and grounds/trail upkeep.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in natural or physical science, education, or recreation.
  • Availability to work 37.5 hours per week, Tuesday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and during special events.
  • Comfortable with public speaking and hands-on interaction with wildlife, including snakes, turtles, and raptors.
  • Ability to work in various outdoor settings, performing physical tasks such as running, stooping, bending, pushing, pulling, and lifting heavy objects.
  • Proficient with computers and small tools (e.g., blowers, weed eaters, trimmers, shovels, etc.).
  • Obtain a Hunter Education Card, a hunting or fishing license issued by KDFWR, and certification in CPR/First Aid.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and be at least 21 years of age.

Duration: The position runs through November 2024.

Compensation Information

Compensation: $16.13/hr.
