Pierce Conservation District is seeking an AmeriCorps member to serve in our Conservation Education Specialist position. The AmeriCorps member will serve in the Environmental Education program, developing and delivering lessons and field trip programs, conducting outreach to teachers and community members at school science nights and other community events, and assisting with special projects such as the Salmon in the Schools and Envirothon.

Summary

The Conservation Education Specialist reports to the Environmental Education Program Manager, and is responsible for the following:

Environmental Education Program
- Plan and develop lessons for youth
- Coordinate and lead field trips with local schools
- Conduct outreach at school science nights and community events
- Assist with special projects such as Salmon in the Schools - Tacoma
- Coordinate PCD’s participation Envirothon (host workshops, register teams, plan event details, write tests, etc.)
AmeriCorps Cohort
- Participate alongside PCD AmeriCorps members in team building activities, including service projects and professional development

Compensation Information

AmeriCorps members receive a monthly stipend of $2,171.43 before deductions and withholdings. Upon completion of the service term, members receive a $6,195 education award (10.5-month positions) that can be used for future schooling or to pay off existing qualified student loan debt. Additional information regarding compensation can be obtained through Washington ServiceCorps, which administers the funding for this position. PCD will provide the member with an ORCA (transit) card, a farm share box, and a training budget.
