This position focuses on adoption of cost-effective cropping systems to improve soil organic matter, soil microbiome, carbon sequestration and tillage practices through adoption of cropping system practices that include advance fertility management, changes in tillage practices, cover crops, conservation farming and other innovations that reduce nutrient and sediment loss and improve soil health and ecosystem services.

You will work collaboratively with work team members, MSU service units, allied industry and farmers, agriculture and conservation societies and organizations, and state and federal governmental agencies to design, implement, deliver, and evaluate educational programming to meet high priority needs of clientele. This will include, but not be limited to organizing educational events and field days, working on agricultural decision support tools, and writing and coordination of educational publications, bulletins, and videos in collaboration with MSU Extension field staff and industry partners. Acting as a regional and statewide point of contact, you will provide support for AABI in determining research and programmatic needs and communicate and interact with industry groups to evaluate the needs of clientele.

 

You will be expected to be an effective communicator and use a broad array of communication strategies, such as, in-person and virtual meetings, on-farm field days, social media, digital release of educational materials and on-farm consultations. You will explore and implement programs that lead to public knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors that lead to cost-effective improved climate resiliency of field crops systems. You will also develop, produce, and deliver conservation cropping systems outreach materials with messaging and content that is accessible and inclusive and is consistent with the Agriculture and Agribusiness Institute messaging.

 

Although negotiable, there will be space available for this position to work from the Lenawee County MSU Extension office located in Adrian Michigan.

 

Minimum Qualifications (see full description for complete list of requirements)
•    Master’s degree related to soil science, agronomy, or crop science, with knowledge of conservation agronomy practices.
 

Compensation Information

 

$56,100 or commensurate with education and experience
