Summary
THE POSITION:
In collaboration with the Walker Creek Ranch management team, the Conference Manager works
to meet the hospitality needs of visiting conference guests and students. This position will oversee
the planning, marketing, and organization of the Conference Center Programs, scheduling and
supervising personnel and facilities, training staff, maintaining the facility calendar, developing and
coordinating conference programs, interacting with guests to meet their needs, maintaining files,
preparing reports, and keeping financial and inventory records. The position communicates with
the Marin County Office of Education personnel and other public and private client groups in the
promotion and use of the facility as an outdoor education school and conference center.
In conjunction with the Food Service Manager, this position may support food service staff
supervision and scheduling. The position may also assist with developing menus, supervising
preparation of meals, monitoring and maintaining the food inventory and storage, kitchen
cleanliness, nutritional records and guidelines, and the food service budget.
Performs various duties as assigned related to the Ranch Programs and Services. Weekend work is
required. Residency may be required.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge to:
Perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; read a variety of
manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and/or present information to others; and
solve practical problems. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform
the functions of the job include: principles of conference and meeting planning, scheduling and
marketing; basic bookkeeping; supervision of staff; methods, materials, and equipment used in
maintaining an overnight guest facility; hotel housekeeping and food service practices and
procedures; tracking, managing, and procuring food and supplies; inventory control practices;
relevant codes, laws, rules, regulations, policies; and, safety principles of living and working in rustic
conditions.
Ability to:

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination of training and experience which demonstrates possession of the knowledge and
abilities stated above. A typical qualifying background is prior experience in a conference, camp
and/or hospitality program involving program planning, supervision, marketing, and budget
administration. Valid Driver’s License and evidence of insurability. DMV Pull Notice Enrollment. Food
Handlers/ServeSafe Certificate. First Aid/CPR certified.
