ASI’s Communications & Outreach Development Coordinator aims to support equity and access throughout our community-based avian research projects in Fairbanks, AK. This includes working with our our volunteer and K-12 programs, youth & teen STEM mentoring projects, and more. Our goal is to increase diversity and inclusion in our staff, volunteer, and student communities, and throughout Interior Alaska's conservation community.

Summary

Responsibilities: This position is an integral part of a team including biologists, educators, volunteers, youth, and teens working together to conserve Alaska’s boreal birds. The overarching goals of this position include: (1) Developing an organizational Communication and Outreach Plan including strategies to retain and expand our membership and volunteer base, to increase the breadth of our outreach; and to increase diversity and inclusion in our programming; (2) Establishing and chairing an Education & Outreach Advisory Committee to guide program development and to support increasing diversity, equity, and access to ASI’s programming, resources, and learning opportunities; (3) Developing ASI’s youth and teen STEM mentoring programs to include increased recruitment and support for groups traditionally under-represented in STEM fields with a focus on low income and Alaska Native communities.

Compensation Information

Status & Compensation: This is an AmeriCorps VISTA position. Candidates must apply through AmeriCorps.gov. Benefits include: a monthly living allowance, health care coverage, choice of an Education Award or End of Service Stipend upon successful completion of service, and  professional development opportunities. Additional housing assistance may be available.
