The Utah Conservation Corps (UCC) Technical Coordinator plans and coordinates the day-to-day fiscal, administrative, and operations for either UCC's Northern Utah or Moab Regional Offices. The Technical Coordinator is primarily responsible for providing leadership and technical expertise to crews to ensure all field crew members are adequately trained and prepared to work in a safe environment.
Summary
This position is primarily office-based with the exception of participating in 3-5 member trainings and occasional site visits and crew check-ins. The Technical Coordinator reports to the respective Regional Coordinator of their area. There are two positions available, one in the Logan, UT office covering Northern Utah and one in the Moab, UT office covering Southeastern Utah.
Responsibilities
- Provides technical, logistical, and administrative support to field crews
- Assists the Regional Coordinator in the supervision of field crews stationed throughout the Intermountain West
- Oversees the day-to-day management of conservation projects
- Supports field crews with training, guidance, and constructive feedback
- Serves as a role model, resource, mediator, and advisor for field crews
- Ensures compliance with UCC, AmeriCorps, and USU policies, including enforcing disciplinary procedures when necessary
- Completes mid-term and final evaluations for all Field Logistics Technicians, Crew Leaders, and Crew Members
- Performs weekly check-in calls with field crews and approves member timesheets
- Supervises the rig-up (pre-hitch) and de-rig of crews (post-hitch)
- Assists in securing lodging and accommodations for crews while on project hitches
- Coordinates with the Regional Coordinator to support the on-call schedule and occasionally work weekends or nights
- Assists the Regional Coordinator with training and supervision of up to 180 seasonal AmeriCorps members including: Field Logistics Technicians, Crew Leaders, and Crew Members.
- Oversees the herbicide application program including training, use, storage, and disposal.
- Develops training courses such as:
- Trail maintenance and construction
- Proper tool use and maintenance
- Pre- and post-project planning and organization
- Chainsaw use and safety
- Critical incident scenarios
- Rig-up and de-rig procedures
- Vehicle inspections and maintenance
- Herbicide: use, storage, and disposal
- Outdoor living skills including Leave No Trace
- Food storage, meal preparation, and water purification
- Interpersonal skills including leadership, conflict resolution and constructive feedback
- Conducts regular risk management and policy audits which includes collecting and reporting data
- Purchases and maintains tools, equipment, gear, and first aid supplies including proper storage
- Manages inventory and develops equipment checkout systems
- Works with the Operations & Logistics Coordinator to manage UCC fleet, vehicle assignments, and mileage reporting
- Assists the Regional Coordinator with:
- Operations, scheduling, and solicitation of projects
- Project development and emergency response plans
- Evaluation of field crews' technical skill retention during field site visits
- Attends professional meetings with current and potential project partners as needed
- Collaborates with project partners to plan equipment needs, work schedules, training needs, and data management
- Attends weekly program staff meeting to report on field crews and projects
- Participates in UCC's strategic planning meetings
- Meets with program staff to annually assess and revise member training
- Assists the AmeriCorps Program Coordinator in:
- Enrollment of AmeriCorps members
- AmeriCorps compliance related to member management, placement, and progress reporting
- Submission progress reports for multiple AmeriCorps grants
- Other duties as assigned
Compensation Information
$43,000 BOE plus excellent benefits
