This Education Specialist is located at the Kansas Wetlands Education Center at Cheyenne Bottoms. It is an opportunity to be a member of a partnership team, providing quality educational programming, plan special events and work at one of the largest inland marshes in the country, which is on the list of Wetlands of International Importance. It is a premier location for wildlife watching and waterfowl hunting, situated in a very rural setting.

Summary

This unclassified, full-time position is part of the Education Section of KDWP, but works in partnership with KWEC staff who are employed by Ft. Hays State University. The incumbent develops and presents education programming dealing with Kansas flora and fauna, especially those that would occur in central Kansas and in marsh/wetlands situations. There is opportunity to conduct tours, lead field trips, conduct outreach programs, plan special events, facilitate teacher trainings and promote the Education Center through community engagement. The incumbent will also have duties including, but not limited to: care of exhibit and program animals, care of an onsite pollinator garden, and supervision & coordination of work by temporary employees

Compensation Information

BENEFITS: Beginning hourly rate, $22.83/hour; immediate group health and life insurance coverage; retirement; optional deferred compensation, dental and vision options; holidays; and sick, vacation, and parental leave.
