Summary

Climate and Environmental Educator

Full Time Position

The Howard County Conservancy is looking for a dynamic educator with an ability to engage young people in environmental and climate science. Experience working on and a strong passion for climate justice is a plus. In addition to hands-on teaching, this position plans events, recruits and manages partners and volunteers and assists with marketing programs. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with excellent time management skills.

The Climate and Environmental Educator supports the growth and development of our multi-state Youth Climate Institute, as well as elementary and secondary education programs.  The Educator also serves in a backup role for summer camps. This position reports to the Elementary and Secondary Education Managers. Occasional Saturdays and evenings required.

This position works out of both our Woodstock and Elkridge, MD locations with some opportunity for virtual work. Occasional travel may be required. Salary range $43-44,000/year. Benefits include a monthly contribution toward health insurance. Dental insurance, long and short-term disability and life insurance are provided at no cost. Paid holidays and paid time off are provided along with an optional pre-tax IRA with an employer match of 3%.

General Responsibilities:

• Support the development of the Youth Climate Institute including outreach to students and prospective chapters, logistical support for programs and events, administrative oversight of various processes including marketing, social media and website management.

• Serve as a chapter leader for Youth Climate Institute when needed.

• Assists with the development and delivery of teacher professional development

programs.

• Provides outreach programs at schools and community sites, including working with

the Conservancy’s owls, snakes and terrapins.

• Supports the recruitment, retention and training of volunteer naturalists.

• Works in partnership with community groups to strengthen the Conservancy’s

education programs with a focus on outreach in diverse communities.

• Active participation as a member of the Conservancy staff team, assisting with

special events, Saturday public hours and other programs as needed.

• Other duties as assigned.

Seasonal programmatic supports:

• Leads education stations during K-12 field trips.

• Helps facilitate camp staff training. Serves as substitute camp counselor when

needed.

• Supports day-of logistics for elementary and secondary education programs,

including transportation and set up and clean up of equipment.

Requirements:

• BA/BS degree, or equivalent experience

• 1+ years’ experience in environmental education.

• Strong communication and presentation skills.

• Proven project management and time management skills; highly organized and

detail oriented.

• Works professionally and effectively with a variety of staff, clients and stakeholders.

• Proficient with Microsoft Office.

Compensation Information
