This job is for a creative, organized, and passionate educator to support SPES’s mandate by booking, promoting, and delivering outdoor nature education programs for school and community groups’ children. Reporting to the Education Manager and working closely with education staff, the Camps and Clubs Coordinator will deliver educational programming covering a diverse range of local ecosystems (forest, wetland, and intertidal ecosystems) which are offered to schools between September and June and to day camp children during summer and spring break. On a non-COVID year, SPES’ school programs reach over 5,000 students through outdoor, experiential programs, which foster environmental literacy and a love and curiosity for the natural world.

Duties
- Coordinate and lead the booking of all SPES camps and clubs and be responsible for the associated administration, including email, website, phone, and data entry
- Deliver STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) outdoor experiential environmental education programs for school students, teachers, club participants and day camp children; outdoors and indoors, in warm, wet, or cold conditions;
- Support the booking for SPES field trips and teacher professional development workshops and the associated administration, including email, website, phone, and data entry
- Assist in the ongoing development of new nature programs and program elements;
- Coordinate the training, scheduling, and supervision of program volunteers and contract staff with the other Coordinator;
- Coordinate program advertising – including newsletter updates, draft social media postings, and posters;
- Update, maintain, and design program materials and equipment as needed;
- Coordinate registrations and associated bookings and contract staff for successful running of programs;
- Participate in/contribute to SPES culture building around equity, inclusivity, decolonization, ecology knowledge and perspective growth;
- Deliver occasional in-person or online education programs for the public;
- Split shifts as an educator at the Nature House on Lost Lagoon with the Public Environmental Educator from September to June each year;
- Contribute to grants or new funding opportunities and provide input into budgets and approaches to education, as capacity and timing allows;

Qualifications
Education, Experience, and Training
- Degree or diploma in biology/environmental studies or training and/or experience in these fields is an asset
- Education degree and/or teacher certification is a strong asset
- Demonstrated experience successfully teaching or leading student groups
- Experience in outdoor education and/or nature interpretation
- Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (especially InDesign) an asset, as we as Canva
- BC class 5 driver's license
- First Aid certification with CPR +, or ability to get certification before start date
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Excellent interpersonal & coordination skills with a collaborative work style;
- Willingness and ability to frequently perform active work on and off-trail outdoors, rain or shine;
- An ability to work independently and as a team, in a kind, collaborative, and competent way;
- Proficiency with word-processing, database entry, and email;
- Strong knowledge of BC ecology is an asset;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
- Fluency in other languages than English is a strong asset;
- Ability to pass a criminal record check with vulnerable sector search

Start date: April 4th, 2022 (possibility of shadowing Spring Camps sooner or possible part-time start to accommodate finishing school for the right candidate)
Pay band: Starting at $20.86 hourly, with optional benefits after 6 months Hours: 37.5 hours per week; Tuesday- Saturday, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. depending on what programs we want to run and Nature House shifts, with some flexibility and more frequent weekend or evening work, may be required. Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. over the summer and public schools spring break
