Summary
Camp Leads serve fundamental roles in The Bishop Museum of Science and Nature’s Summer Science Camps. Leads will facilitate high-quality camp experiences by developing and delivering nine different weeks of summer science camp. Reports to Special Programs Manager.
Essential Functions
- Reliable attendance for a 9-week, 40 hr/week summer commitment, plus two weeks prior to camp for training and wrap up days at the end of camp (M-F, May 23 – August 9, not including holidays).
- Prepare and organize curriculum and materials for daily camp activities.
- Facilitate a fun learning environment by implementing hands-on programs and activities and adapting lesson plans based on campers needs and interests.
- Lead campers in respectful and organized use of museum public spaces and exhibitions.
- Meet camper behavioral and physical support needs in a professional and positive way, including communicating these to parents effectively.
- Anticipate and ensure safety for campers and staff (including following Museum COVID guidelines).
- Ensure a neat, clean, and organized classroom and related facilities.
- Foster interpersonal relationships through cooperation, helpfulness, and friendliness towards staff, campers, parents, and guests.
- Be a role model towards campers, mentor interns and camp assistants, and communicate positively and effectively with co-workers.
- Communicate daily with Special Programs Manager or Co-curators of Learning about camp developments.

Qualities
- Passion for science education; a science or education background is a plus
- Strong leadership skills and ability to make quick decisions
- Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills
- Strong skills with MS Office products
- Able to multi-task, be flexible, dependable, and responsible
- Able to problem solve while being positive and patient
- Able to stand and walk for long periods of time
- Able to lift, pull, and push 25 pounds
- Able to have fun and be goofy!
Range of Experience
- Experience facilitating groups of children in a non-traditional summer-camp setting is preferred
- Experience developing and implementing hands-on and interactive curriculum (in sciences a plus)
