Summary
The Backcountry Wilderness Area’s mission is to improve wildlife habitat, inspire the next generation of environmental stewards, and ignite a lifelong love of the outdoors for all. Located at 5,920 feet in the heart of the Front Range, our 8,200-acre campus—featuring outdoor learning spaces, an outdoor amphitheater, a natural play space, garden, chicken coop and pastures with 20 chickens, 6 goats, and 2 donkeys, a state-of-the-art archery range, and horse corrals—serves as the ultimate learning environment. Camp Backcountry offers programs that provide a balance of hands-on science, field-based exploration, team building, camp games and songs, and adventure. With over 100 campers spending the week at Camp Backcountry every week, there are lots of moving parts and logistics. This position is responsible for overseeing basic day-to-day camp operations and implementation of the logistics that go along with these operations. Examples of operations may include taking and uploading camper photos every day, sending updates through an app to parents throughout the day, assisting with check-in and check-out, delivering water and supplies to groups as needed, setting up supplies for camp-wide games and activities, serving as the lead facilitator for specialized activities as assigned, giving medications to campers, inspecting and storing all camp equipment, coordinating staff breaks with camp counselors and supervising/teaching a camp group if a counselor needs a break, helping monitor the health and safety of all campers, and a flexibility and willingness to perform any other duties and roles as assigned by the Camp Director or Education Coordinator. This position averages approximately 40 hours per week. Camp programming begins at 7:30 a.m. and ends at 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. A typical workday for the logistics specialist would be an 8-hour shift anytime between 7:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. This position starts May 23, 2022 and ends August 5, 2022. Requirements: • Candidates must be 21 years of age or older • Must have an interest in, respect for, and ability to work with children • Have a passion for nature and outdoor recreation and a basic knowledge of ecological principles • Must be highly organized and self-motivated • Ability to help maintain the health and safety of all campers • Ability to act as a mediator between campers • Ability to be trained on medication administration, give out medications to campers, and fill out and file proper paperwork for all medications given out • Show flexibility and adaptability in a fast paced and ever-changing environment • Strong work ethic and motivation to contribute positively to the Backcountry Wilderness Area at large • Strong communication skills with ability to effectively interact with people of all backgrounds • Ability to work in a busy environment with many distractions • Must be cool-tempered and friendly • Practice and enforce all camp safety regulations and emergency procedures • Previous childcare experience is strongly preferred • Current adult and pediatric First Aid and CPR certifications required, or ability to obtain before the first day of employment • Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record • Must be able to attend the mandatory staff training May 23 through May 27, 2022 • Must be able to work the full camp season, May 31-August 5, 2022 Must pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen.
Salary: $16—$17/hour depending on qualifications and experience
