We are seeking camp assistant directors for each of the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation's four residential summer camps. Camps Colby and Pack Forest are in the Adirondacks, Camp DeBruce in the Catskills and Camp Rushford in Western NY. Assistant directors support directors throughout the daily operations of the camp. Duties unique to assistant directors include supervising the camp volunteer program, mentoring counselors, and assisting with lesson creation. Campers 11-13 years old or 14-17 years old learn principles of ecology and outdoor skills including backpacking, camping and canoeing.

Summary

Camp Assistant Directors primary function is to support the duties of the Camp Director.  Incumbents of this position take on a role of a program director by organizing program schedules for campers and staff as well as training staff in environmental education and recreation programming. The Assistant Director helps to ensure the health, safety, and welfare of all campers, volunteers and staff that reside at the camps.

Camp Assistant Directors are the program director of the camp program. They set program schedules, offer training and advice on leading programs and approve the Camp Counselors' lesson plans. They assist the Camp Director in evaluating staff's work performance as well as the overall effectiveness of the program. Responsible for insuring the camp's compliance with health and safety guidelines as established by Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) and the Department of Health.

Compensation Information

Salary $21.12/hour (40-hour week) plus room and board
