Summary

Cuyamaca Outdoor School is currently seeking overnight cabin leaders to join our team at the original 6th grade camp, Cuyamaca Outdoor School. As our residential camp, students will be making memories that will last forever. As a cabin leader your role will be critical in creating a fun and safe environment for the students, while also facilitating team-building activities, sharing captivating stories in their cabins, and providing overnight supervision. If you are a natural leader with a passion for education and adventure, then this is the job for you. Cabin Leader 

The San Diego County Office of Education is recruiting for a Cabin Leader for the Cuyamaca Outdoor School. Under general supervision, provides overnight supervision of students in the cabins at the outdoor education schools; initiates and oversees recreational, social, and group living activities. Certain positions may require a male only or female only employee.
 

Essential Functions:

Provides overnight supervision of fifth and sixth grade students in a residential setting.

Oversees cabin cleanup, rest, bedtime, and other group living activities.

Tells stories, demonstrates games, and leads short social activities.

Observes and assists students in preparation for bed and morning rising.

Supervises students overnight in cabins and responds to students’ needs during sleeping hours.

Monitors and assists students to ensure they are properly prepared for morning outdoor education activities.

Oversees and assists students in preparing luggage for departure.

Observes students and reports signs of illness or other distress to appropriate program staff.

Assists in maintaining safety precautions and standards in the cabins.

Communicates problem areas with other program staff.

 

Qualifications

Graduation from high school or its equivalent.

Experience working in a recreation program with school-age children is desirable.

Ability to lead songs, play guitar, and lead team building activities is desirable.

Demonstrates a positive attitude, adaptable personality, strong work ethic, and likes to have fun. 

Current Red Cross first aid and CPR certification are required for this position.

 

Position Details

September 2, 2025, start date; $22.82 - $29.12 hourly rate, paid training, plus a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, sick leave, pension, and more; 10-month work calendar; meals provided during program; on-site housing available.

Located in Cuyamaca Rancho State Park, one hour east of San Diego.
