Summary

Utilizing a community engagement approach with a focus on equitable and inclusive practices, the Education Manager is responsible for stewarding an education team who collaboratively implement and sustain a program portfolio which includes a 20 year partnership with Boston Public Schools to implement deep impact programs in classrooms and school yards, a full suite of engaging public programs for families and adults across the city of Boston, two accredited summer camps, a field experience program for schools and community groups and the Willow Tree Youth Leader teen program.

The Education Manager will oversee the development, marketing and implementation of all education programs and activities including staff and budget management. The EM is responsible for building and maintaining partnerships with leaders in education, environmental and climate literacy, and other community-based partners   to sustain existing and forge new relationships that strengthen and solidify Mass Audubon’s role as a community leader in equitable and inclusive environmental education.  As a member of the Boston region’s management team the EM will play a significant role in strategic planning, community engagement, and leadership of the region.

As a member of the Statewide Education Leadership team the Education Manager plays a key role in annual and strategic planning in education for the organization as well as building a statewide community of educators aligned with strategic priorities and statewide education outcomes. 

Responsibilities
Staff Management and Supervision 

  • Manage an education team that works collaboratively to advance educational priorities
  • Recruit, hire, train, support, and evaluate education staff including full time, part time and seasonal staff
  • Encourage staff growth and professional development through ongoing workshops and trainings in the region

Administrative Management of Education  

  • Ensure a balanced portfolio of programs and activities that effectively meet the desired impact of Mass Audubon and the needs of communities throughout Boston
  • In collaboration with other staff, define education strategies for all audiences in the region
  • Oversee development, implementation, and monitoring/evaluation of on and off-site programs and activities and their operating budgets including school, community-based programs, adult programs, children and family programs, summer day camp, vacation week programs, teacher training, and visitor education and interpretation
  • Oversee and ensure effective risk mitigation and management for all education programs including accountability to Mass Audubon safety policies and all regulatory and accreditation requirements
  • Attend weekly manager meetings and serve as part of the sanctuary’s management team
  • Represent Mass Audubon in the local community in a positive and constructive manner
  • Teach and/or lead education programs, trainings and other activities as needed

Communications, Community Relationships and Marketing 

  • Build and steward collaborative relationships with education, environmental education, climate education, and social sector leaders
  • Present at conferences, publish articles, and/or actively promote the education work of the region

Statewide Coordination and Integration  

  • Collaborate with the team of Regional Education Managers and the Mass Audubon Education Department to further the goals of education across the state by participating in the design
  • Collaboratively design, review, produce and analyze quarterly and annual statistical and narrative reports on education programs

Compensation Information

Compensation, Benefits and Perks
This position’s salary range is $66,500.00-$73,000.00 annually; actual salary will reflect level of experience and qualifications relative to position requirements.

Work Schedule
This is a full-time, year-round schedule Monday through Friday, with the occasional weeknight and weekend events.
