Summary
Become a Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Team Member and provide direct services to our community through our Rangeland Resources Program. The Ecological Site Inventory (ESI) Team Crew Leader position is offered through Utah Conservation Corp (UCC). This is early leadership level position and is a great opportunity to learn about managing rangeland vegetation and how to monitor rangelands while serving your community as an AmeriCorps service member. The successful candidate will work out of the BLM Salt Lake Field Office in Salt Lake City, Utah. The project will be coordinated by Range Management Specialists. Field work will be done in a remote backcountry setting and requires strenuous exertion. Weather and terrain conditions may be extreme (e.g., heat, cold, thunderstorms, steep terrain). Frequent overnight stays in BLM field stations or camping will be required. Develop a data tracking plan and collect and report AmeriCorps impact data timely and accurately.

Primary Duties
The successful candidates will:
- Perform work outdoors in the field involving monitoring rangeland vegetation, soils, and ecosystems using established protocols and standardized equipment
- Assists in coordination of work schedules and field work for 2 interns
- Leads interns in data collection using GPS and other field data records. The lead will be responsible for QA/QD of all data and work
- Office duties will largely consist of vegetative data entry and report writing. In addition, some specialized skills using GIS and remote sensing software in the development of geospatial data layers
Training/Professional Development provided:
- Training on vegetation monitoring protocols used in ESI monitoring--ecosystem specific plant identification, range trend, utilization, and interpreting indicators of rangeland health
- Basic GIS and GPS skills Data collection and reporting training
Qualifications

- Be a United States citizen, U.S. national, or a lawful permanent resident alien of the United States
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Have a high school diploma or GED or work towards obtaining one while in the program (It is a requirement to obtain a high school diploma or GED before one is eligible to use the Education Award.)
- Must be clear of any record on the National Sex Offender Public Registry
- Must have a criminal record clear of any conviction(s) for murder
- Must be eligible to enroll in an AmeriCorps term of service
- A positive and professional manner and willingness to engage with diverse populations
- Must be willing to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions
- Members must have a high fitness level and an interest in frequent camping in BLM field stations or in a backcountry setting
- Ability to coordinate multiple projects with multiple interns and provide progress reports to BLM staff
- Ability and willingness to work alone/ in a small group with minimal supervision
- Must be willing and able to take initiative, work independently, and participate in collaborative efforts
- Must be able to communicate clearly and concisely with resource professionals.
- Previous field experience
- Experience in data collection, management, and report composition
- Experience in various uses of GPS
- Experience and to use a plant key
- Familiarity with scientific names and pant terminology
- Physical ability to lift 50 lbs
- A valid driver's license

Compensation
This is an AmeriCorps position that comes with these benefits:
AmeriCorps Benefits
*1) Available Position Dates: May through August and AmeriCorps Term Length: 675 hours
*2) Living Allowance: $12,150.00
*3) Ed Award: $2,474.27
*1 Specific dates will be worked out between BLM and candidate with respect to minimum hour requirements.
*2 Living allowance stipend is taxable and is disbursed on a bimonthy basis through Utah State University. The amount presented is the gross amount and is equivalent to $18.00 per hour. Forbearance on qualifying student loans may also be an option while in service.
