KTMB practices the sustainability we preach. We rally volunteers to remove tons of litter from our public spaces, empower our community to stop the spread of invasive weeds, teach kids to protect our watershed, and much more! Our close-knit staff supports AmeriCorps in both fulfilling our shared mission and pursuing their own passion projects (as well as sporting Hawaiian shirts on Fridays).
Summary
KTMB is committed to fostering a safe and supportive work environment for AmeriCorps Members to gain relevant experience, learn desired skills, and pursue their passion projects.
Primary Responsibilities
- Implement volunteer training protocols and assist with volunteer management for all three of KTMB’s programs;
- Implement community events and education programs involving beautification and cleanup projects;
- Assist in coordinating KTMB’s annual programs including The Great Community Cleanup, The Truckee River Cleanup and Christmas Tree Recycling;
- Organize and coordinate monthly cleanups;
- Conduct project site orientations and lead volunteers for KTMB’s Adopt-A-Spot and neighborhood cleanup programs;
- Prepare and maintain inventory of supplies and appropriate tools for volunteer cleanups;
- Facilitate volunteer retention and appreciation events throughout the year through donation solicitation;
- Recruit and collaborate with community volunteers;
- Update and maintain KTMB’s project management and volunteer database;
- Work with KTMB educators to help the community learn about local recycling resources, watershed health, and invasive/noxious weeds;
- Develop and implement service learning opportunities for schools and community groups;
- Design and deliver public presentations for a variety of audiences to promote KTMB’s mission for sustainability and environmental education

- Strong communication and public speaking skills;
- Strong organizational skills;
- Strong leadership skills;
- High degree of initiative and spirit of service;
- Flexible schedule for potential weekend work;
- Good sense of humor;
- Experience working with volunteers;
- Preferred: experience in volunteer coordination;
- Preferred: Bachelor’s degree;
- Preferred: experience with event implementation;
- Preferred: experience working in a park or outdoor setting performing community beautification and/or conservation work;
- Preferred: Reading, writing and speaking competency in Spanish language.

Compensation Information
In return for their service, AmeriCorps members receive a modest living allowance and are eligible to receive the Segal AmeriCorps Education Award upon completion of their terms. For the 2023-2024 AmeriCorps term, the living allowance is $20,000 and the education award is $6,895.
AmeriCorps members are eligible for federal student loan deferment, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), and Affordable Care Act (ACA) health insurance during their service. After their service, AmeriCorps members are entitled to non-competitive eligibility for hiring with federal agencies. AmeriCorps Members are eligible to adjust income-driven repayment plans for federal student loans to $0 during service, and service counts toward Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF).

KTMB’s Youth Education Coordinator positions are funded by the Corporation for National and Community Service and will serve with AmeriCorps. Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation, a separate nonprofit, is the AmeriCorps consortium responsible for onboarding AmeriCorps Members for KTMB and other local nonprofits.
