Summary
Common Tides is looking for an Assistant Trip Director who has a strong knowledge base of sailing prowess, marine sciences, and a contagious teaching energy. You must be motivated, able to work within a team as well as on your own and have proven skills working with children and adults. Assistant Trip Director is responsible for implementing and
overseeing an active, hands-on, experientially-oriented program including physically demanding work, such as sailing, snorkeling, cooking, and some heavy lifting. You will be required to have your own snorkeling gear. This is a high energy program where staff spend long days working and teaching in a unique environment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
● Follow Common Tides curriculum both on and off the water
● In charge of all grocery purchases and errand runs while aiding interns in their cooking duties on board
● Help organize school groups and students for trips on Common Tides
● Work closely with the Trip Director, Captain, and Interns to plan, develop, and implement lesson plans
● Use your time constructively and be prepared to fill class time when program plans change
● Assist with the training of all interns in marine science and sailing program
● Observe, give assistance, and provide teaching feedback to interns
● Be prepared to teach a variety of programs to students of all ages
● Provide leadership and motivation to students and interns as well as assist interns when teaching
● Conduct yourself in the highest standards
● Help maintain sailing vessel
● Help implement Common Tide’s safety plan, maintain vessel, and offsite safety at all times
Minimum Requirements:
● Meal planning, food budget, and cooking skills preferred
● Strong sailing background
● Prefer a BA or BS in Marine Science, Biology, Oceanography or a related science or Teacher Certification
● ARC Waterfront Lifeguarding, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid or ability to obtain such
● Proven ability to effectively manage and organize students and adult volunteers
● Strong communication, decision making, logistical, and organizational skills
● Able to pass a Government background check
● Must be in physical condition that allows for participation of all duties
● Ability to live and work in close quarters on a 40 foot Catamaran
● No conflicting commitments including travel, work, or other leave of absence during the program dates

Compensation Information
$800, flight reimbursement, and room and board for the duration of the trip
