Summary
This is a leadership position and as such requires an unwavering commitment to professionalism and a thorough and complete understanding of all crisis management, health, and safety protocols. Technological proficiency with PC or Mac hardware/software, and competency with Microsoft Office, and relevant electronic communication methods is a requirement for the fulfillment of this job description.
With the support of the General Manager (OSP), the Assistant General Manager performs the work necessary to maintain the Okefenokee Swamp Park per the expectations set by the Executive Director and the Board of Trustees. This position handles day to day tours, gift shop and nature center operations. In addition, this job may require the employee to stand, bend, kneel or lift in the course of their regular job duties.
Normal Hours:
1. Hours and expectations set by the General Manager (OSP).
Principal Accountabilities:
1. Understand the need to maintain a balance between a welcoming and friendly environment, with the need for employee and guest safety.
2. Provide support to all teams to ensure the necessary supplies, organization, and implementation of daily tours run smoothly
3. Work with the General Manager to ensure the park is up to date with all permits and licenses required to operate, including operation of our naturalist education programs.
4. Coordinate and comply with water monitoring regulations define by DEP
5. Serves as OSP Food and Handler ServSafe team leader
6. Work with the OSP GM to create and implement an EOP (Emergency Operations Plan) and ICS (Incident Command Structure) for both OSP.
7. Facilitate daily deposit and end of day reporting
8. Maintain reserve bank and petty cash with OSP GM
9. Initiate a interpretive guide daily tasks list
10. Implement daily interpretive exhibit walk with boat and train guides.
11. Create a maintenance schedule for all tour operation machinery
12. Create an animal ambassador maintenance and cleaning program
13. Maintain Pioneer island garden and chicken coop to provide authentic experience.
14. Create weekly, monthly, and annual checklists for interpretive boat/train guides.
15. Make recommendations regarding risk management.
16. Lead all work teams as required or requested.
17. Responsible for the safety, health and well-being of all employees.
18. Provide a monthly report to the OSP GM
19. Manage multiple projects and meet deadlines assigned by OSP GM
20. Serve as OSP lead guide for all site visit and VIP arrivals
21. Supports the mission and goals of the Okefenokee Swamp Park and Okefenokee Adventures.
22. Promote, facilitate, and program for all school groups with the Okefenokee RESA Educator
Qualifications:
1. Significant professional experience in managing a National Wildlife Refuge and Georgia State concession.
2. Excellent computer and communication technology skills.
3. Valid Georgia Motor Vehicle Operator’s License and good driving record.
4. Will occasionally, lift, carry, push or pull weights up to 60+ lbs.
5. Able to visually monitor staff and patrons for appropriate actions.
6. Walks on various types of terrain in all climate conditions.
7. Operates various types of hand power tools and audio-visual equipment.
8. Must be capable of performing various types of maintenance and construction tasks necessary to build and maintain the facilities.
9. An understanding of risk management, facilities management, and business office functions.
10. Superb communication skills.
11. Works well with the public.
12. Good interpersonal, organizational, and leadership skills.
13. Pro-active orientation coupled with the ability to consistently present
professionally and act as a team player
