Summary

Position Title:  Program Coordinator

Department: Cooperative Extension 

Location: Greenland Point 4-H Camp and Learning Center

Your Direct Supervisor:  Program Director , Nicole Nelson

Position Type:  Full- Time, Temporary (June to August) 

Salary Range:  $3,000 - $6,000 for the season (6 to 10 weeks), commensurate with experience

Work Environment / Dynamics: 

You will be based at Greenland Point 4-H Camp in Princeton, Maine. You will work closely with the camp directors to assist with the smooth daily  operations and camp programming. 

 

Your Work Schedule: 

You will work a full summer schedule from early to mid June through early to mid August. You will reside on-site throughout the season. You may live in cabins with campers based on program needs. You will generally work Sunday thru Friday with occasional Saturday work. You will receive daily time off Monday through Thursday and weekends off are Friday late afternoon thru Sunday morning.

 

Responsibilities:

  • You will teach camper programs in areas such as conservation education, wilderness survival, boating, outdoor cooking, and more.
  • You will supervise and lead activities for groups while staff are taking time off.
  • You will plan lessons, lead activities, mentor campers, and create opportunities for campers to learn and explore the outdoors through high-quality experiences.
  • You will attend and actively participate in a one-week paid staff training, where you will learn, practice, and review practical skills.
  • You will assist camp counselors in resolving group conflicts and addressing camper situations as needed.
  • You will lead all camper lessons and activities for your group, implementing a curriculum that covers skills such as listening, communication, team-building, boating skills and safety, outdoor cooking, conservation education, wilderness survival, map and compass navigation, general ecology, and more.
  • You will live in a cabin with up to nine campers, creating a supportive, fun, and positive living environment.
  • You will co-lead a variety of one- to two-week-long programs for various age groups.
  • You will supervise and ensure the safety of campers at all times, encouraging problem-solving and decision-making while facilitating the resolution of group conflicts.
  • You will contribute to community living by participating in chores (helping hands), meal service, and any necessary maintenance duties.
  • You will attend and participate in staff meetings as scheduled.
  • You will model positive energy, clear communication, and good stewardship of the environment.
  • You will actively engage with campers during lessons, activities, and mealtimes to foster a supportive community.
  • You will regularly evaluate the program with the Director to enhance the overall camp experience.

 

Knowledge and Skill Qualifications:

 

Required: 

  • You need a High School diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.)
  • You need to hold CPR/Basic First Aid OR willingness to take training (camp will provide training)
  • You have the ability to work with a diverse groups of youth and adults
  • With or without accommodation, you have the ability to travel outdoors over various terrain, responding efficiently in the event of an emergency
  • You have the ability to lead groups in various outdoor environments

 

Preferred: 

  • Have a valid driver’s license, a clean driving record and willingness to drive 12 passenger vans. This camp is licensed by the State of Maine. You must meet the State of Maine requirement for driving vehicles, "Drivers of vehicles carrying campers must be at least 21 years of age and be approved by the camp’s auto liability insurer’s agent."
  • You can demonstrate responsible and safe decision-making skills in all aspects of outdoor camp programming.
  • You have a genuine motivation to work with children in a vibrant, high-energy outdoor setting where every day is an adventure.

Who We Are: 

 

The 4-H Camp & Learning Center at Greenland Point provides environmentally focused programming for Maine youth through summer camp and school programs. These programs are designed to inspire outdoor fun, practical woods-wise skills, and hands-on conservation education. Participants may learn a new outdoor skill or activity that will increase their awareness and understanding of ways that we can live fulfilling lives and make sound choices while doing the things that we enjoy. Through these programs, our mission is to teach youth to be effective and caring citizens through affordable environmental education and fun nature-based experiences.

Compensation Information

Weekly Salary ranges from $500-$550 per week
