This educator position will support Hartley’s After School Nature Club (ASNC) students and staff. This position will deliver and create curriculum, correspond with parents/guardians, manage student behavior and work closely with others on teaching team. They will join a friendly, dynamic staff that is dedicated to carrying out Hartley Nature Center’s mission of inspiring lifelong connections with nature through education, play and exploration.

Summary

This position is listed at 22-25 hours a week but this role will be offered additional, optional hours to teach field trips, camps, birthday parties and special events at the same pay rate. These opportunities are especially common in the summer, fall and spring and less so in the winter months. Option to work up to 40 hours a week exists for 13 weeks of summer programming. Teaching February Break camp is required. 

Duties: 

  •  Commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion in education and in the workplace    
  •  Develop and deliver age appropriate, child-centered environmental education programming for After School Nature Club and February Break Camp (2/19-2/23), and other programs as relevant 
  • Support in risk assessment, behavior management  and evaluation of social and emotional needs of students.
  • Attend training for field trips and ASNC programming for the duration of the school year
  • Attend weekly staff meetings and engage with professional development opportunities 

Qualifications: 

  • Current certification in First Aid and CPR, or willing to receive 
  • Experience in teaching in traditional or nontraditional classroom
  • Experience environmental education or outdoor recreation and writing lesson plans preferred 
  • Experience working with students with special needs preferred 
  • Ability to relate with people of all ages and abilities in a positive manner 
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team 
  •  Genuine interest in working with children in the outdoors 
  •  Degree in environmental studies, education, sciences, or related field or equivalent      experience
  •  Ability to work and teach outdoors in all weather conditions 

Compensation Information

Status: Part Time, 22-25 hours/week for school year

Start date: On or before January 2nd 2024

End date: June 6th, 2024

Pay: $16.00 / hour
