The Department of Plant Pathology and Microbiology at Texas A&M is looking for an Academic Professional Track (Non-Tenure) Instructional Assistant Professor for a teaching-focused position. This position has a teaching load of 9 credit hours per semester in the fall and spring. The undergraduate Bioenvironmental Sciences (BESC) program has over 150 students learning to make an impact toward a healthier environment of the future. This department is in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Texas A&M University, which is one of the largest land-grant universities in the country with more than 70,000 students.

Summary

The Department of Plant Pathology and Microbiology, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Texas A&M University invites applications for a full-time Academic Professional Track (Non-Tenure): Instructional Assistant Professor position with a 9-month academic appointment beginning August 1st, 2023.


Teaching responsibilities include teaching face-to-face and online courses in the undergraduate Bioenvironmental Sciences (BESC) program using appropriate pedagogy to address well-defined learning outcomes consistent with course goals within the programmatic and university curriculum requirements.  Examples of current BESC courses that may be taught in this position are BESC 357 (Biotechnology for Biofuels and Bioproducts), BESC 367 (US Environmental Regulations), BESC 402 (Microbial Processes in Bioremediation), and BESC 411 (Environmental Health and Safety Compliance). The incumbent is expected to teach 9 cr hrs/semester in Fall and Spring.

Service responsibilities include departmental, college, and university service roles as needed and available, consistent with expertise in teaching technology, appropriate pedagogy, curriculum assessment, and engagement with current and former students with respect to the environmental profession. Examples of service include faculty advisor to the student organization National Association of Environmental Professionals (NAEP), member of the Curriculum and Assessment Committee, and other roles related to teaching and assessment.

General duties and responsibilities include exemplifying good citizenship by meritorious performance, meeting the requirements of the college and university for faculty with this sort of appointment (e.g., TrainTraq training, TAMU academic requirements, etc.) and representing the department at college and university functions, as appropriate. TAMU faculty are encouraged to seek out opportunities for professional development and continuous improvement congruent with teaching and service responsibilities. Other duties as negotiated and subsequently required.

The Department offers a unique undergraduate degree, a B.S. in Bioenvironmental Sciences (BESC), currently hosting 165 students. BESC graduates enter careers in biotechnology, environmental consulting, regulatory agency compliance, municipal waste management, energy production, and beyond.

Qualifications
As we are looking to add an additional APT faculty member to the department, we will be looking for candidates with a PhD degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or related disciplines.
