Summary
South Dakota State University (SDSU) Extension and South Dakota 4-H are offering two exciting career opportunities as a hands-on lead teaching professional with the title of 4-H Program Manager, Outdoor Education. These positions, one located in Sioux Falls and one located in Rapid City, are a result of a creative new partnership with South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks (GFP). These positions will be located at the GFP’s Sioux Falls Outdoor Campus and GFP’s Rapid City Outdoor Campus. The selected individuals will primarily develop and oversee the experiential education team and provide instruction at an Outdoor Campus facility to visiting student groups throughout the school year. These are 12-month, 100% time, benefit-eligible positions. These positions are supervised by the State 4-H Program Director.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Serve as the 4-H Program Manager, Outdoor Education at the Outdoor Campus in either Sioux Falls, SD or Rapid City, SD, providing 4-H program and policy supervision as well as direct education in support of outreach goals;
- Maintain open and effective communications with Outdoor Campus personnel and leaders;
- Convey Outdoor Campus volunteer-related concerns to Outdoor Campus leadership;
- Ensure Outdoor Campus programs are following established 4-H and Game, Fish, and Parks policies and procedures;
- Provide direct outreach education at the Outdoor Campus through school and afterschool programs;
- Communicate effectively with local school districts to schedule and convene educational programs;
- Provide educational and curricular support to statewide 4-H outdoor education programs (e.g., summer camps, outdoor wilderness leaders) during the summer months;
- Position does require some evening and weekend work and travel. Occasional overnight stays for events and training are required;
- All other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Child or Youth Development, Education, Natural Resources Management, Outdoor Recreation, Biology, or a closely related field completed by first day of employment;
- At least three years related work experience;
- Must be able to use a computer for basic word processing, electronic communications, and reporting;
- Ability to communicate well verbally and in writing is essential;
- Valid driver’s license and automobile, or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire, and willingness to travel.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Demonstrated experience in planning, teaching, and evaluating educational programs for a variety of youth audiences;
- Demonstrated experience in managing operational elements such as scheduling and supervision;
- Demonstrated experience in leading a team.

Compensation Information
The annual salary is commensurate with education and experience; estimate is $47,000.
